Questionable Skin Spots

The American Academy of Dermatology estimates that there are 10 to 40 moles on the average person. The majority of these moles are benign. Even so, there are people that opt to have one or more moles removed from their face or hands for cosmetic reasons.

If you have a family history of skin cancer or malignant moles, you might want to keep a wary eye for a few warning signs. An established mole that starts to change color or increase in size can be an early symptom of the skin cancer known as melanoma. If a mole starts to develop a ring around it, you should have it checked out as soon as possible.

Mole that are in hard to see locations like your back, the back of your neck, shoulders and legs, should be monitored by a close friend or loved one.

Identifying a questionable mole early increases the chances of a successful removal, or developing a treatment strategy before it has a chance to develop into something more serious. If you have a mole that you are concerned about, or you think might need to be removed, please call us at 801-224-5200 to schedule an appointment.
