Wart Removal

Visit Drs. Kraig K. Jenson, Byron Edwards or Devin Burr if you think you have a wart. Our dermatologists can tell whether or not you have a wart by looking at it. In rare cases, a skin biopsy is needed to be certain. If this is needed, the wart is removed and sent to the lab. A biopsy is a safe and fast procedure.

In many cases, warts will go away without treatment. This is especially true of children’s warts. Most warts are harmless, but our dermatologists will treat them. If you cannot get rid of a wart, the wart hurts, or if you have many warts, see Dr. Kraig K. Jenson and Bryon Edwards. We have many treatments to remove warts in Orem, Utah. The treatment chosen will depend on your age and health and the type of wart. Depending on your specific case, one of the following treatments will be used:

  • Cantharidin: The wart is painted with cantharidin, which causes a blister to form under the wart. A week or so later, you return to Kraig Jenson, PC, Dermatology Center and our dermatologists will clip away the dead wart.
  • Cryotherapy: Freezing is the most common treatment for common warts in adults and older children. Repeat treatments are often needed.
  • Electrosurgery and curettage: Electrosurgery, or burning, is often used for common warts, filiform warts and foot warts. Curettage, which is often used with electrosurgery, involves scraping off the wart.
  • Excision: The wart is cut off.
