Common Skin Care Mistakes

There’s a lot of information out there regarding what’s best for your skin. With advice on how often you should exfoliate, what products are or aren’t good for your complexion, and everything else, it can be hard to know what’s really good or bad for your skin.

That’s why we put this post together. Dr. Kraig K. Jenson wants to make sure their patients are informed of some of the most common skin care mistakes they sees on a regular basis.

Sleeping with makeup on
This is a basic one, but a mistake that is worth discussing here. So many people habitually fall asleep with their makeup on. The makeup becomes impacted in your pores, making them appear larger. That leads to inflammation.

Sleeping on cotton
Cotton pillowcases are terrible for your skin. Over time, cotton pillowcases cause trauma to your skin through the friction created between your cheek and the pillowcase. Silk or satin minimizes friction and is much better for your skin.

Over-exfoliation
It’s nice to think that by exfoliating your skin on a daily basis will help fight oily skin, but if you over-scrub your skin you actually speed up oil production. You only need to exfoliate two or three times per week.

Not getting enough sleep
Believe it or not, but sleep is essential to healthy-looking skin. When your skin gets the optimum amount of rest, you’ll notice a huge difference in your skin’s look.
