Are You a Good Candidate for Microdermabrasion?

Are you looking for non-surgical ways to improve your skin? If you are wanting to improve a dull complexion, diminish age spots, blackheads, patches of dark skin, or just want to even out the texture of your skin and skin tone, then you may benefit from a gentle, painless skin renewal treatment known as microdermabrasion. Let’s take a look at what this non-invasive anti-aging treatment entails and if you would make a good candidate. A microdermabrasion uses a specialized tool with small crystals to rub off the skin’s surface layer, stimulating the body’s response to replace the removed skin cells with new, healthy skin cells and improving the skin’s surface.

How it works
Essentially, microdermabrasion exfoliates the outer layer of the skin which contains dead skin cells and vacuums them away. First, a specialized tool is used to raise a small section of skin to be worked on. As this wand vacuums, the skin swells, bringing up impurities. A stream of crystals is swept over the patch of skin which is pulled up. The wand suctions up the crystals and dead skin to be disposed of. Microdermabrasion stimulates blood flow which provides nutrition to the skin cells. As the skin heals, the new skin cells feel and appear smoother. Another benefit to microdermabrasion is that as blemishes, fine lines, and sun damage are cleared out, this allows better absorption of lotions and creams in the lower skin levels. Regular microdermabrasion treatments over time also affect the lower skin layer regrowth, helping to get rid of deeper blemishes. This can benefit you if you have clogged pores or if you have skin sensitivity to anti-acne drugs. Stretch marks can also be improved, as well as acne scars.

Who should not get Microdermabrasion
If you have any of the following, microdermabrasion is not for you at this time: if you have dermatitis, open sores, warts or skin lesions on your face. If you are having a rosacea flare up, or acne over a large area. If you have eczema, lupus, psoriasis, or diabetes mellitus, or herpes. Also, if you are currently taking blood thinners you will not be a good candidate for this treatment at this time.
